we all talk about the negatives about the ugly face of the watchtower that i thought i would start a 'happy' thread.. what are some of your favorite non-wt quotes?.
here's a good one to start:.
you cannot be, i know, nor do i wish to see you, an inactive spectator.

5. Disfellowshipped and disassociated ones are generally expected to make their own arrangements for transportation to and from congregation meetings.
I suspect that they're leaving the merciful door open a bit with the modifier that I've underlined. Of course, that's just a guess.

i, along with many others, received our latest freeminds email.
i was shocked at the following underlined statement.. the second thing they are emphasizing is that those who claim to be of the "anointed" (now that they have admitted the number may not be limited to 144,000) not only have no say into what goes into the watchtower magazine, and have no special knowledge or place in jehovah's organization, so don't look to them for answers.
the governing body is the faithful and discreet slave as far as the jws are to be concerned.

Randy (or anybody in the know), if you're tuned in, please provide us with some means of verification of that statement.
It's not totally surprising, if substantiated from one of their published pages. After all, they've had ever-increasing numbers of Memorial partakers for the last several years. They were bound to come up with some spin to be able to depart from the literal number.

when the jw armageddon happens, i guess he'll be #2. .
mao's great leap forward 'killed 45 million in four years'mao zedong, founder of the people's republic of china, qualifies as the greatest mass murderer in world history, an expert who had unprecedented access to official communist party archives said yesterday.
speaking at the independent woodstock literary festival, frank dikotter, a hong kong-based historian, said he found that during the time that mao was enforcing the great leap forward in 1958, in an effort to catch up with the economy of the western world, he was responsible for overseeing "one of the worst catastrophes the world has ever known".
Here's one list of mass murderersin the 20th century. Yes, Mao Zedong is at the top. Interestingly, Richard Nixon and Lyndon Johnson are on the list but are way down.

Hi Sab,
I thought that article was a bit dated with the mention of some 3,000,000 happy subjects. For those lurkers, it is from the Watchtower, 1986, March 15.
Being 24 years old it's undoubtedly looked upon by the now-faithful as "old light".

this is for all of you out there who post wells of information on the doctrines of jw's.
let's say you had to present your top 5 arguments for why jw's are not the true religion, which five would you choose?
i'd like to hear all of your thoughts.
Everything they teach is subjective (subject to interpretation) and taking an opposite view will mostly get the response -- " ... well that's your view on the matter. I'll continue to choose the view of the Watchtower." Arguing with most JW's about teachings is like arguing with the chair you're sitting on.
As an earlier poster said, they've lied -- and while you will get them to concede that the Watchtower has made mistakes, you will never get them to admit lying. Lying is not subject to interpretation and the fact that they have is well documented on this forum and other similar sites.
In my opinion a lie is the deal breaker with a religion. Fact is, Watchtower publications have even said just that. Therefore, no need to waste time arguing even a single teaching once they've been shown to lie.
One example -- the publications say that they have never contradicted themselves. Well, take a look at the flip-flop teachings that are so well documented -- resurrection of the Sodomites (some 6 reversals -- yes, no, yes, no, yes, no), the Superior Authorities -- 2 reversals, and on and on.
So not only are there contradictions, they've lied about not having them.

i had to laugh when i saw this.
its called house2house.
While you're browsing that same web site, take a look at the 127th class of Gilead. They're "ready to go".
the study editionof the watchtower for september 15th 2010, p13 states "similarly today, a governing body composed of spirit-anointed christians contributes to the unity of the worldwide congregation.
the governing body publishes spiritually encouraging literature in many languages.
this spiritual food is based on god's word.
Hi Elm and welcome aboard. The following cartoon may be proper for this discussion. Len
ok, so earlier this summer at a dc i got to hear one of the gb speak.
he used some odd terminology i had not heard before.
he said this two or three times, so i mentally made note of it.
The official teaching is that ONLY ANOINTED JWs are recognized as real JWs.
Nope. That is definitely not support by Watchtower publications.
*** Watchtower, 2008 7/15 p. 3 par. 1 The House-to-House Ministry--Why Important Now? ***
IT IS a familiar sight in almost every nation on earth. Two neatly dressed individuals approach a house and endeavor to share with the householder a brief message from the Bible concerning God’s Kingdom. If he shows interest in the message, they may present Bible-based literature and offer a free home Bible study. Then they proceed to the next house. If you participate in this work, you likely find that people often recognize you as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses even before you begin to speak. Indeed, the house-to-house ministry has become our trademark.

PROFILE
NAME: ADRIAN PEREZ
AGE: 30
COUNTRY: MEXICO
HISTORY: GANG MEMBER
MY PAST: When I was about 13 years of age, ...
I have been baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for ten years now. I try hard to apply Bible teachings in my life. As a result, I am gaining the respect of my family. Now they know me as an industrious worker, and I have even been able to help them out financially. My mother started studying the Bible and has now become one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. My father is also making changes in his lifestyle. Most of my family are not Jehovah’s Witnesses, but after observing what happened with me, they acknowledge that the Bible can help a person to improve his life.

jehovahs witnesses support same sex marriage inadvertently sunday, 08 august 2010 10:16 written by stephan pate 5 commentsdespite jw fundamentalist ban of gay marriage, old supreme court ruling in their favour used to defeat prop 8 in california.
the california decision by united states district chief judge vaughn r walker reversed prop 8s ban of same-sex or gay marriage in the state.. part of the legal argument for gay marriage comes from a 65 year old supreme court ruling that granted freedom of religious expression to jehovahs witnesses.. walker said that the majority opinion does not eliminate fundamental rights for a minority.. ironically jehovahs witnesses ban same-sex marriage.
This seems out of line to JW policy, the fact that he is not in a disfellowshipped state. That quote mentions his being a member, which by their standards would imply that he was baptized.
Here's what Wikipedia says about his baptized state: Engardio graduated from Michigan State University, majoring in journalism and history. He was born and raised in Saginaw, Michigan where his mother was the only member of a large Italian Catholic family to join Jehovah's Witnesses. Joel Engardio himself was never baptized as a witness.[9] He currently lives in New York.
